Five-times champion Roger Federer lost his first set of this year's US Tennis Open but rallied to beat former winner Lleyton Hewitt 4-6 6-3 7-5 6-4 and reach the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.
Federer was far from his best during the two and a half hour match making an uncharacteristic 59 unforced errors but still managing to beat Hewitt for the 14th successive time.
