Bay of Plenty have scored their first win over Canterbury in 12 years, winning 19-17 in Mt Manganui to sit atop the Air New Zealand cup domestic rugby competition.
Both teams scored a try each but it was Bay of Plenty first five Mike Delaney who was the difference kicking four out of five shots at goal.
Meanwhile Waikato hope to have got their season out of first gear with a 30-22 win over Hawkes Bay in Hamilton and Tasman beat Manawatu 34-15.
