The National Rugby League playoffs get underway this weekend with the top eight teams set to do battle.

A dramatic weekend of action saw as many as 12 teams vying for playoff spots and three teams looking to claim the minor premiership crown.

Friday night's match pits the fourth placed Melbourne Storm against the fifth placed Manly Sea Eagles in Melbourne, the defending champion Sea Eagles are looking to become the first team to take back to back titles since Brisbane in 1998.

On Saturday the third placed Gold Coast Titans face the sixth placed Brisbane Broncos in an all Queensland clash at Skilled Park. And the second placed Bulldogs square off against the 7th placed Newcastle Knights in Sydney.

And top qualifiers and minor premiers St George Illawara face the eighth-placed Paramatta at Jubilee Oval in a repeat of last weekend's clash where the Dragons outclassed the Eels 27-0.
