Caroline Powell has finished best of the New Zealand riders at the prestigious Burghley horse trials in the UK.

However it was a disappointing finish for Powell, who lay third after the cross country but dropped two showjumping fences in the final phase to finish eighth.

Amongst the other Kiwis, Dan Jocelyn was 19th, Andrew Nicholson 21st, Neil Spratt 28th and Annabel Wigley 29th.

Tim Price retired on Saturday's testing cross country course.

The event was won by Britain's Oliver Townend.
