Goosen moves up in Boston

6:42 am on 8 September 2009

The South African golfer Retief Goosen has joined Americans Steve Stricker and Sean O'Hair in a share for the lead after the third round of the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

He finished with a three-under-par 68 in a testing breeze after a disappointing par at the par-five 18th.

The top three are 13-under, one stroke ahead of Irishman Padraig Harrington and Americans Scott Verplank and Kevin Na.

The world number one Tiger Woods did not make a birdie until the 15th hole in one over par 72 and is out of contention in a tie for 30th, nine shots back.

Twelve players are bunched within three strokes and Goosen says the winner will have to shoot very low in the final round, as Vijay Singh did last year, when he shot a 63.
