The doctor involved in the Harlequins rugby club fake blood scandal, faces investigation from her professional body after the General Medical Council of Britain asked rugby officials about her role.

Wendy Chapman cut the mouth of winger Tom Williams after he had used a fake blood capsule to force a blood replacement substitution during the club's Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster last season.

European Rugby Cup have issued a statement confirming that the GMC had contacted them seeking information about Chapman's involvement.

The ERC Board has reserved its position over Chapman but today said it would not be taking any further action against the London club, its officials or former officials.

Last month Quins chairman Charles Jillings resigned from the club, former director of rugby Dean Richards was banned from the game for three years and Williams banned for four months following the incident and the club's subsequent attempts to cover it up.
