Formula One's boss Bernie Ecclestone says Force India should have chosen an Indian driver to replace Giancarlo Fisichella to help boost the build up for the nation's first grand prix in 2011,

After the Italian switched to Ferrari Force India replaced him with their reserve driver Vitantonio Liuzzi instead of offering the chance t Karun Chandhok, 25, who drives in the GP2 feeder series,.

Ecclestone says he was hoping his friend and Force India team principal Vijay Mallya would give Chadhok a chance.

He says he's a little disappointed Mallya has opted for another Italian when Chandhok has the talent and ability to be competitive.

Formula One is having a bumpy ride in India though with sports minister Manohar Singh Gill dubbing it more entertainment than sport while refusing certain duty exemptions for the company building the track near New Delhi.
