Hewitt and Gemmell in contention for triathlon worlds

There are two New Zealand triathletes in contention for the world championship title on the Gold Coast this weekend.

In a new format this year, athletes have been picking up points over a 7-race series and carry those points into this weekend's finale.

Kris Gemmell and Andrea Hewitt are both third in their respective classes and can both win if other results go their way.

Hewitt says she's ready to at least retain her current position as she wants a podium finish.

She's got an easy game plan, to stay ahead of the two women in front of her on the rankings - or at least close to them.

Hewitt says the course is a pretty good one, very flat and fast which will suit her on the run but it could come down to how the swim goes.

Briton Alistair Brownlee leads the competition heading into the men's race tomorrow, while Australian Emma Moffatt is the frontrunner for Sunday's women's race.
