New ABs backline combination to be tested tonight in Hamilton

It's mild and dry in Hamilton for tonights' sold-out Tri-nations rugby test between the All Blacks and Springboks.

All Blacks loose forward Jerome Kaino says they've studied how South Africa have been targeting the breakdown, and if forecast rain does arrive, it shouldn't make much difference.

Stephen Donald and Ma'a Nonu will start at second-five eighth and centre, in a new combination in the All Blacks backline.

Despite trying out the number 12 jersey in training this week, Dan Carter stays at first five.

Donald is more used to playing first five eighth, but says his game is pretty well suited to the number 12 jersey.

Loose forward Jerome Kaino says they've studied how South Africa has been targetting the breakdown, and if forecast wet weather's a feature at Waikato Stadium tonight, it shouldn't make much difference.

Kaino says the aim will still be to keep hold of the ball and stay on their feet.

Although the Springboks need only to gain a bonus point to win the Tri-Nations title in Hamilton tonight the captain, John Smits, says they'll still go all out.

The All Blacks need a win with a bonus point to have any chance of retaining the trophy, but say they too are focused first and foremost on getting the victory on the night.

Smit says both teams will always play to win.
