Despite failing to win a major this year, the world golf number one Tiger Woods has described the year as one of his most successful.

He's won his sixth title of the year at the BMW Championship in Illinois, coasting to an eight shot win.

Woods says he's never had a year where he's been as consistent or had as many high finishes.

He's usually judged his success by the major championships he's won, but after recovering from knee surgery is using a different measure.

Woods says he didn't know how his leg would stand up to the demands of the tour can't remember the last time he played without his leg hurting.

Woods returned to the PGA Tour in March at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship finishing tied for 17th. In his following 15 starts he has finished out of the top 10 only twice.

In six events since failing to make the cut at the British Open in August, he has won three tournaments and finished second twice.
