New Zealand's Kane Radford has won one of the world's most competitive and prestigious open water swimming events.
The Rotorua teenager won the Tiburon Mile, an annual race from Angel Island in San Francisco
Bay to the town of Tiburon.
Radford, who's based at Mission Viejo in California, beat Australia's defending champion and
world 25-kilometre silver medallist Trent Grimsey, the two-time winner and world 10-kilometre champion Vladimir Dyatchin of Russia and the Olympic gold medallist Ous Mellouli from Tunisia.
He took control from the start to win the $14,250 winner-take-all prize by five seconds from the Australian Grimsey.
