Lawson denies national fours side threw match

Bowls double world champion Gary Lawson denies the national fours side threw a game at last month's Asia/Pacific champs in Malaysia.

Bowls New Zealand have stood down Lawson and team-mates Shayn Simcock, Jamie Hill and Shannon McIlroy amid claims they threw a match against Thailand, to avoid a clash with Australia the next round.

The four now have to appear before a judicial committee but Lawson denies they've done anything wrong.

Lawson, who skippered the fours to sucess at the world champs in Christchurch last year, says they held enough shots on the final end to win the match but Thailand simply scored a fluke to take the game.

Had they been wanting to throw the game he says they would have done so much early than waiting until the final end.
