The Auckland cyclist Aaron Gate has failed in his bid to retain his Omnium world championship title, having to settle for fourth at this year's event in Colombia.

Gate moved up to third in the six race event when he won the individual pursuit this morning, but finished seventh in the scratch race and fifth in the time trial to end up fourth overall, two points outside the medals.

New Zealand's won five medals at the world champs, one gold, one silver and three bronze.

The only New Zealand riders to feature in tomorrow's final day of competition will be points race silver medallist, Tom Scully, and Shane Archbold who will pair up in the Madison.
