Former world champion Mick Fanning has relaunched his bid for the 2009 world surfing title with a resounding victory in the Hurley Pro Trestles.

Fanning eliminated nine-times world champion Kelly Slater in the semi-finals before beating rising US star Dane Reynolds in the final to claim the richest winner's purse in surfing history - $120,310 Australian.

The 2007 world champion carved up the one-metre waves to secure the sixth event on the ASP world tour and move into second place on the ratings with four events remaining in 2009.

Australia's Joel Parkinson retains the No.1 ranking on 5,486 points, followed by close mate Fanning (4,550) and Brazil's Adrian de Souza (4,348).
