8:13 am on 21 September 2009

The South African government is demanding the sacking of the country's athletics chief who has admitted lying about Caster Semenya's gender tests.

Leonard Chuene owned up at the weekend having previously denied knowing that tests were carried out on Semenya before she won the world 800 metres track title last month in Berlin.

But he says the deception was intended to protect Sdemenya's confidentiality.
