In American Football, the New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for violating New York's stringent gun laws.
Burress, a one-time Super Bowl hero, agreed to a plea deal last month and pleaded guilty to a lesser firearms charge.
The charges stemmed from an incident last year, in which Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub with a gun that had not been licensed in New York.
He is expected to serve about 20 months with credit for good behavior, followed by two years of probation.
