Young French rugby international's fate yet to be determined

The French Rugby Federation have deferred until next week a decision on the fate of their young international Mathieu Basteraud who concocted a story about being attacked in a Wellington street after a night out following a test against the All Blacks last June.

Wellington police found video evidence showing the player entering the team's hotel on the Sunday morning uninjured, and going to his room 25 minutes later.

When he returned home Basteraud went to hospital suffering serious psychological problems but he has since resumed playing for his club Stade Francais.

The French Prime Minister Francois Fillon ended up apologising to New Zealand for the players lies.

21 year old Basteraud has appeared before the French Federation and a decision is expected early next week.
