Hamilton's Gill one step nearer to a place on PGA's European Tour

The Hamilton pro golfer, James Gill, is through to the second stage of European Tour qualifying, after shooting a two under 70 on the final day of his stage one tournament in Germany.

He finished in third place on 11 under, three shots behind Englishman Ally Mellor.

Gill, who is based at Scotland's St Andrews course, will be one of 115 golfers vying in Stage Two, over four venues in Spain in November, to play in the Final Stage at PGA Golf de Catalunya.

The top 30 there will win a coveted place on the 2010 European Tour International Schedule.

Gill was tied for the lead going into the final day and a win would have been great, but the top three finish in the company of some of Europe's top golfers still gives him a lot of confidence.
