Broncos injuries cut their chances in tonight's NRL semi final

The underdog Broncos have a challenge on their hands tonight, facing the Storm on their home ground in a National Rugby League semi-final without their injured halfback, Peter Wallace.

The loss of the playmaker puts more pressure on five-eighth Darren Lockyer, who has had a hamstring strain, and fullback Karmichael Hunt to step up for Brisbane against a full-strength Storm side.

Both teams are coming off three straight wins, but Melbourne are hot favourites to win a place in next weekend's grand final against the Parramatta Eels, who beat the Sydney Bulldogs 22-12 in Sydney last night.

The Eels, who mid-season looked unlikely to even make the top eight playoffs, have now won 10 of their last 11 games.

However they may be without their inspirational fullback Jarryd Hayne for the big game as he was placed on report for sliding in to a Bulldogs player with his knees.

Also possibly missing will be skipper Nathan Cayless, who left the field with a hamstring injury.
