World champ leads all the way in Singapore

The world motor racing champion Lewis Hamilton stormed to an all-the-way victory in the floodlit Singapore grand prix last night, while Jenson Button extended his championship lead to 15 points with three races left.

Hamilton produced a brilliant drive round the demanding Marina Bay circuit, crossing the line 9.6 seconds ahead of Toyota's Timo Glock, with last year's winner Fernando Alonso third for the embattled Renault team.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel had started alongside Hamilton on the front row but a drive-through penalty for speeding through the pitlane ended his victory hopes and he finished fourth.

Jenson Button was jubilant about his climb from 11th on the grid to finish 5th, one place ahead of his Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello, his nearest rival in the title race.

The third to last round in the championship is in Japan this weekend.
