The New Zealand opening batsman Jesse Ryder has been ruled out of the rest of the Champions Trophy one day cricket tournament in South Africa after aggravating an old injury during the Black Caps' 38-run win this morning over Sri Lanka.

Ryder tore an abductor muscle early in his top-scoring innings of 74 in Johannesburg, and team management have asked the ICC for permission to bring in Aaron Redmond as a replacement.

The world motor racing champion Lewis Hamilton stormed to an all-the-way victory in the floodlit Singapore grand prix last night.

Hamilton won easily from Toyota's Timo Glock and Fernando Alonso, while Jenson Button did well to finish 5th, extending his championship lead to 15 points with three races left.

Cadel Evans has become the first Australian to win the elite men's road cycling race at a world championship, with a stunning solo ride in Mendrisio, Switzerland.
