Suspension urged by refs for Sir Alex

1:03 pm on 7 October 2009

The English football referee's union, Prospect, wants Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson suspended for labelling a referee as "unfit" after United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Ferguson has been sent a "please explain" by the Football Association over his comments about Alan Wiley but Prospect's Alan Leighton says a fine or a touchline ban wouldn't affect the Scottish veteran.

Leighton says until an example's made with a suspension this kind of criticism will continue.
