The former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova has become the latest upset victim at the China open in Beijing, surrendering her serve four times in a 6-2 6-4 loss to China's Peng Shuai.

The 22-year-old looked sluggish, with her ferocious ground strokes too often landing in the net or beyond the baseline, while the 53rd-ranked Peng made just three unforced errors to Sharapova's 21.

It was a good day for the other Russians though with - Nikolay Davydenko, Elena Dementieva, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova - all into the quarters.

The second seed Novak Djokovic also cruised though easily defeated another Serb Viktor Troicki.

Davydenko's easy win over Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber keeps him in contention for one of the fibnal three sports in next month's season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro and Djokovic have aleady qualified.
