Blues coach coy on new first five

12:03 pm on 15 October 2009

The Blues coach Pat Lam says it's great news the Wellington halfback Alby Mathewson has confirmed he'll move north for the Super 14 rugby season.

But although it looks as if Canterbury's Stephen Brett will play for the Blues before returning to Christchurch for the provincial championship, Lam says his search for a new first-five hasn't been finalised yet.

In the meantime he says North Harbour's All Black tight forwards Tony Woodcock and Anthony Boric will remain with the Blues, along with many other top players.

Lam says Keven Mealamu, Isaia Toeava, Jerome Kaino and Joe Rokocoko are off contract and promising newcomers such Rene Ranger, Chris Lowrey and Peter Saili are also staying despite a lot of interest from other provinces.

The deadline for transfers is Friday evening, with other changes under the draft system to be announced on November the 11th.
