Farina gets the sack

6:16 am on 15 October 2009

Sacked Brisbane Roar football coach Frank Farina says he has been made a scapegoat by the A-League club.

The Roar terminated Farina's contract after he was caught drink-driving on Saturday.

The club says he failed to live up to the high expectations the community expects of its role models.

Farina says while he knows he made a mistake, he thinks he has been made a scapegoat for the club's struggling financial position and poor discipline record this season.

He says if any Australian in any walk of life makes the mistake that he did and gets sacked for it, then the unemployment rate in Australia would be very high.

Farina says the club has not offered him a fair payout on his contract.

Roar chairman Chris Bombolas admitted it had been a tough few days for the club, and he hopes the parties can avoid legal action.
