The former Kiwis rugby league international Paul Whatuira is being kept in hospital in Huddersfield pending a psychiatric assessment after being arrested in connection with two assaults in the northern England town.
A local newpapers says Whatuira was arrested after after allegedly being involved in a "bizarre sequence of events" which left two men with serious facial injuries.
Whatuira is playing for the Huddersfield Giants in the English Super League.
