Semi-final crunch time for Heartland rugby

2:07 pm on 17 October 2009

It's all about winning the right to host next week's semi-finals in the last round of rugby's Meads Cup matches in the Heartland competition this weekend.

One place remains to be decided between Horowhenua Kapiti which has 19 points, South Canterbury on 18 and Wairarapa Bush 17.

Horowhenua Kapiti and South Canterbury play each other, while Wairarapa Bush has the toughest job, hosting Mid Canterbury in Masterton.

The successful team will join Poverty Bay, Mid Canterbury and Wanganui in the semis.

Wanganui and Poverty Bay will play for the right to host a semi-final.

Meanwhile, there's a top of the table clash between the West Coast and North Otago in the Lochore Cup, a likely preliminary contest before the final in a fortnight.

King Country and Buller have also secured their semi-final places, in their respective matches against East Coast and Thames Valley.
