Hendry wins Kaikoura pro-am

Michael Hendry has won the golf Pro-Am at Kaikoura with an exceptional five under par round of 67.

In a wet and blustery southerly that caused the cancellation of the second and final round of the team's part of the event, the professionals continued with the second round in the the afternoon.

Hendry's 67 included an eagle and six birdies to go with three bogeys, which together with his first day 65 gave him a winning total of 12 under par 132.

The North Harbour pro won by five shots from Alex Tait, who added a second round 70 to his 67, a total of 137.

Troy Ropiha had the second best round of the day with a 68 to finish third on 138.

The PGA Club Professional Championship was played in conjunction with this event, and Wanaka's Garth Domigan successfully defended his title with rounds of 70 and 72, finishing one shot ahead of Peninsula's Robin Smalley.
