The New Zealand women's hockey team has won the Champions Challenge tournament beating hosts South Africa 2-1 in the final in Cape Town.

Anita Punt opened the scoring midway through the first half with a field goal and Clarissa Eshuis converted from a penalty corner just before half time.... the South Africans dominated the last 10 minutes of the match and scored one goal, but couldn't get the equalizer.

Coach Mark Hager says the side was disappointed about their loss to Japan yesterday, but knew if they played their own game then they could win the final.

The result means New Zealand qualify for next year's top six Champions Trophy in England.

It has been a successful first year in charge for the Australian Hager who also guided the Black Sticks to a win over Australia which saw them qualify for the World Cup.
