The England prop Andrew Sheridan will miss all of November's Test programme at Twickenham after being ruled out for four months with a shoulder injury.
Sheridan suffered the setback when a scrum collapsed during Sale's European Cup victory over Cardiff at the weekend.
The 29-year-old Lions prop will undergo a full reconstruction of his left shoulder on Wednesday.
Sheridan joins full-back Delon Armitage and centre Riki Flutey, who've also sustained shoulder injuries, in being sidelined from the November internationals against Argentina, Australia and New Zealand.
