Silver Ferns win first Test against Jamaica

Hometown umpiring calls and some brutal Jamaican defence couldn't stop the Silver Ferns winning the first netball Test 61-56 in Kingston.

Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken has praised the composure of her side - it was only in the final quarter of the match that New Zealand established a points cushion, prompting Jamaica to increase its physicality, with some questionable umpiring decisions also aiding the home side's cause.

Aitken was particularly pleased with the way midcourters Temepara George and Laura Langman performed, given the torrid time they were having.

Aitken says accepting umpiring decisions is something they simply have to deal with.

The second and final Test is on Friday afternoon.
