SANZAR unable to agree on extra Super rugby team

The organisation running Super rugby's been unable to agree on which franchise should join the competition from 2011.

A SANZAR meeting in Brisbane has failed to decide whether Melbourne or Port Elizabeth in South Africa should be added, with the matter to now to go arbitration.

SANZAR voting protocols mean the Australian, South African and New Zealand unions must come to a unanimous decision.

South Africa reportedly rejected a New Zealand proposal the licence be awarded on a majority vote at the meeting.

A arbitration panel will now be convened and a final decision on which team will be added, is expected before the end of the year.
