Gold Coast to wield the axe

7:28 am on 27 October 2009

The Gold Coast football coach Miron Bleiberg says he'll wield the axe while his assistant Paul Okon attacked poor attitudes as they were embarrassed in their 6-nil A-League loss to the Wellington Phoenix on Sunday night.

After convincingly winning their first three matches to back up billionaire owner Clive Palmer's boast United would be crowned undefeated premiers in their inaugural season, the Coast is facing a major test of their character.

The competition's self-confessed glamour club had a lack of spirit exposed by the Phoenix.

Bleiberg, says they won't watch the match as a group and he's just looking ahead now.

Sydney top the standings, Gold Coast are third and the Phoenix are 7th.
