France drop Bastareaud, recall Michalak for South Africa Test

7:47 am on 29 October 2009

Franch has dropped Mathieu Bastareaud for next month's home rugby Test against South Africa, despite the centre apologising midweek for lying about being assaulted in Wellington in June.

Coach Marc Lievremont says Bastareaud wasn't named despite his statement as it would have been better if he had done it earlier.

However Lievremont hopes Bastareaud will force his way back into the French squad.

First-five Frederic Michalak has been recalled after a hand injury to regular number 10 Lionel Beauxis.

France host the Springboks on November 13th, Samoa eight days later then the All Blacks on November 28th.
