The 2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient is in some doubt for another bid in the famous race next Tuesday.
VRC officials say the gelding will need to pass another fitness test on a foreleg injury which has been managed by stable staff for the past 12-18 months, before he's cleared to start on Tuesday.
In his last start, Efficient won the group one McKinnon Stakes at Flemington.
Two other Melbourne Cup entries, Zipping and the former New Zealander C'est La Guerre have also been examined by vets, but cleared to start in the Cup.
