Wanganui are the Heartland amateur rugby champions again after beating Mid Canterbury 34-13 in the Meads Cup final at Christchurch's Rugby Park.
Mid Canterbury led 13-0 at half-time but Wanganui ran away with it, scoring four tries to one and all the points in the second half.
The result was a bitter pill to swallow for the South Islanders, who also lost last year's final to Wanganui. The final loss is just Mid Canterbury's second loss all season.
The other lower-tier provincial final was also on Saturday afternoon at Greymouth's Rugby Park, where North Otago have beaten West Coast 21-13 in the Lochore Cup final.
They led 10-0 at half-time and the win maintains an unbeaten finals record for North Otago.
