The Wellington golfer Peter Spearman-Burn finished in a share of third place in the high profile Asian Amateur Championships in China.

He shot a final round even par 72 to finish on six-under at the super-tough World Cup course at Mission Hills in Shenzhen.

It was a case of nearly but not quite for the New Zealander, who finished one shot behind runner-up Eric Chun of Korea which would have earned him a place in the final international qualifying for the Open Championship at St Andrews next year.

The Koreans showed their class with Chang-Won Han winning on 12-under par, earning him a start in next year's Masters Championship. He was five shots clear of compatriot Chun, who will join Han at the Open qualifying.

Fellow kiwi Daniel Pearce had a final round eight-over 80 to finish in 50th place on 12-over.
