The former world golf number one Ernie Els lost out to Phil Mickelson at the Champions tournament in Shanghai last night, but the big South African's thrilled to have gone so close to winning his first title of the year.

Els was a remarkable 10 under par for the final day before he found the water on the last hole and dropped a shot, coming up one shot short of Mickelson's 17-under par total.

New Zealander Mark Brown broke 70 for the first time, his closing round of 68 getting him a share of 31st place in the elite field, and a cheque for 75-thousand dollars.
