6:26 am on 10 November 2009

New Zealand Cricket's first class competition, the Plunket Shield, gets underway today with defending champions Auckland in Napier to play Central Districts.

Otago will host Northern Districts with plenty of interest in how the University Oval wicket will play with a test against Pakistan there in a fortnight.

Meanwhile wicketkeeper Chris Nevin will become just the 4th player to play 100 first class matches for Wellington as they host Canterbury at the Basin Reserve.

Evan Gray, Robert Vance and Ervin McSweeney are the other 3.
