New Zealand's beaten Malaysia 4-2 at the World Cup men's hockey qualifying tournament in Invercargill.
The unbeaten Black Sticks led 2-1 at half-time after starting strongly and leading early when the veteran striker Phil Burrows scored from a penalty corner.
Malayasia scored from a penalty corner though and stepped up the pace to equalise early in the second half of the wind-swept match.
But the Black Sticks regained the lead with 17 minutes to go when the drag-flick specialist defender Hayden Shaw scored from a penalty corner, then striker Simon Child finished a neat move to slip in the fourth goal.
Earlier China remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Wales and Scotland beat Austria 3-2.
Tomorrow's a rest day and New Zealand will play China on Thursday evening.
