The New Zealand men's hockey coach Shane McLeod believes they're well on their way to achieving their objective of winning the World Cup qualifying tournament in Invercargil.

The unbeaten Black Sticks have scored three times as many goals as any other team in their first three matches and tonight take on China, the only other unbeaten side.

On Tuesday they overcame Malaysia in what was seen as a big test and McLeod says his players are responding well to the challenges.

McLeod says it's all going to plan and if they can go through the tournament unbeaten it'll set a good standard.

The top two sides after round robin play meet in the final with the winner qualifying for February's World Cup in Delhi.
