About 35,000 German football fans have paid their respects in a memorial service in central Hanover for Robert Enke, the national goalkeeper who committed suicide earlier this week.

It was revealed after Enke's death he'd been suffering from depression for several years.

In 2006, Enke and his wife suffered personal tragedy when their two-year-old daughter Lara died of a heart defect. They adopted a baby girl, Leila, just eight months ago.
