Semenya to learn fate this week

Caster Semenya, the athlete at the centre of a gender controversy, will find out this week if she is eligible to compete as a woman.

A review of the South African's gender test results by the International Association of Athletics Federations will determine her future.

18-year-old Semenya came to prominence when she won the 800m at the World Championships in Berlin in August.

She could be suspended, told to have surgery or cleared to run as a woman.

BBC Sport understands the tests are likely to reveal Semenya has an intersex status.
