The American golf prodigy Michelle Wie has won the her first LPGA Tour title, fulfilling the promise of a decade with a three-under par 69 to win the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico by two strokes over Paula Creamer.

Wie first qualified for a USGA event when she was 10, played an LPGA event when she was 12, began competing against men a year later and turned professional in 2005 before finishing high school.

At 16, she was poised to become the first woman to qualify for the men's U.S. Open before her putter and then her confidence failed her.

Four years on she's recovered from the injury that ended her season in 2007 to earn her LPGA card.
