Dravid joins batting elite

The Indian batsman Rahul Dravid starred on the opening day of the first test against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad with a big century which took him into an elite club.

Dravid rescued his side from 32 for 4 with an unbeaten 177 which took him past 11,000 test runs, joining just four others to have reached that milestone - Sachin Tendulkar, West Indian Brian Lara and Australians Allan Border and Ricky Ponting.

In an enthralling start to the 3-test series Indian ended day one on 385 for 6.
