Iraq threatened with expulsion by FIFA

6:14 am on 18 November 2009

The Asian Cup football holders Iraq face being kicked out of world soccer after the country's football association was disbanded by Iraq's Olympic Committee.

The leaders of Iraq's Olympic committee and Football Association have been embroiled in a power struggle for control of the sport for at least a year.

Olympic committee members blame their football bosses for a continuing FIFA ban on Iraq hosting international matches because of insecurity within the country.

Iraq has been given 72 hours to restore it's Football Association or the country will almost certainly be suspended from FIFA.
