The New Zealand runner Nick Willis says while it's taken a long time for Bahrain's Rashid Ramzi to stripped of his Beijing Olympic 1500 metres gold medal it's good the process has been thorough and fair.

The International Olympic Committee 's disciplinary committee's decision clears the way for Willis to become the silver medalist behind the Kenyan Asbel Kipruto Kiprop.

He says its a bitter-sweet moment for his sport, but he's happy that Wada and the IOC is doing its job on drugs cheats.

Willis says a silver medal shows that if he wants to improve there is only one place to go at the 2012 games in London.

Willis says he's recovered well from a hip operation and is returning to New Zealand in a few weeks. hoping to run in a couple of low key races in January.
