The 31-year-old had been due to represent England in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres events.

Farah was admitted to hospital in the United States with abdominal pains at the start of the month but after coming through a series of medical tests, was given the all-clear to resume training.

The Glasgow Games chief executive David Grevemberg says the late withdrawal is unfortunate.

Farah has decided to stay at his training camp in Switzerland to concentrate on being fit for next month's European Championships in Zurich.
