O'Brien backs down after slating Dickinson

The International Rugby Board's referee manager, New Zealander Paddy O'Brien, has apologised for his criticism of the Australian referee Stuart Dickinson following last weekend's Italy-New Zealand Test.

The Australian Rugby Union had complained to the International Rugby Board about O'Brien criticising Dickinson's rulings at scrum time.

O'Brien said Dickinson had wrongly penalised the All Blacks during their win in Milan and apologised to the tourists for the referee's performance.

In a statement the IRB says it's not their policy to publicly comment on refereeing appraisals.
