Broom and Redmond admit serious misconduct

4:44 pm on 22 November 2009

The New Zealand cricketers Neil Broom and Aaron Redmond have admitted they were involved in an incident in India recently that resulted in them being charged with Serious Misconduct by New Zealand Cricket.

The pair breached team security protocols by leaving the hotel late at night to visit a nightspot in Chennai during the New Zealand A teams tour in August.

The pair were picked up by local police after they decided to hand out money to people living on the streets.... no crime was committed and no charges were laid against Broom or Redmond.

The pair say they deeply regret the incident and have apologized to New Zealand Cricket.

New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughn has commended the two players for publicly acknowledging their involvement and says the incident was dealt with appropriately at the time.

Vaughn says it was a confidential process and they considered the matter closed.
